The castle has one of the most distinguished formal French gardens. The beautiful lush gardens are lines with symphony of fountains. The team who put their efforts in creating these majestic gardens included Nicolas Fouquet, André Le Notre, Charles Le Brun and Louis Le Vau. Later on Louis XIV hired the same team for the gardens of the Palace of Versailles.
Four levels of the Palace are heavily decorated and kept intact from the 17th century. A guided tour to different rooms of the palace will enlighten you about how the castle was being used by Nicolas Fouquet and his family.
Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is the best excursion destination for the whole family specially the youngsters. They will not only get to know the history but enjoy other activities as well. To make sure the children are not bored during the visit, they are given a riddle book at the entry point. You can also rent costumes of King’s musketeers’ or princesses while taking a tour of the Palace or you can book an electric car to roam around 33 hectares of the estate of the palace. From May to October, the visitors can enjoy the breathtaking view of 2000 candles lit every Saturday evening.
Another unique feature of the castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte is that it offers exciting programs on event all around the year. You can enjoy Easter by participating in the huge Easter egg hunt at the Gardens of the Palace. Enjoy the incredible water show on every 2nd and last Saturday of the month where the fountains create implausible patterns in the air. Christmas at the Palace comes with unique decorations and epic illumination.
In the basement of the Palace, you can enjoy the audiovisual display of the ground-breaking work of the French Gardens. André Le Nôtre himself tells the tale of how Nicolas Fouquet developed and implemented different stages of the creation of the exquisite gardens.
The carriage museum contains the vintage carriages from the 17th century and onwards. You can see a wide collection of beautiful carriages kept in their perfect forms. In the other half of the museum, horse equipment such as clamping jaws, harness and sweat scrapers are put to display.
